Is your organisational structure limiting you?

Yes we all need some structure in today’s chaotic and constantly changing world. However, can it be that we rely too much on formal roles and formal departmental structures when executing our goals?

As consultants, we often have a chance to visit project and/or delivery teams and get a “helicopter view” on how they work. We have to admit, sometimes the formal structures and roles we see do not make sense. Often, there is duplication of responsibilities, slow handoffs where parallel work would be more suitable and also some protectionism of tasks or information. By making this reality visible through organisational network analysis (ONA), we can help you see your organisation from a new perspective. From this view, you may see, how the formal structure hinders or how it enables collaboration, information flow and value creation.

Traditional structures can drive compliance. But sustainable value creation emerges from intentional leadership within the organization’s informal networks.

To illustrate, what might be this perspective shift, we have created the following 2x2 grid frame. Let us know what you think or book a call to discuss your questions.

A 2x2 framework to explain how to shift from a traditional leadership using formal hierarchy to drive change to a network-based intentional leadership.
